"What is Case Management training?" asked Kekek Apriana, one of the trainers, at the beginning of HIV Case Management Training facilitated by CWS for personnel of the Timor-Leste Defense Forces or Falentil - Forças de Defesa de Timor Leste (F-FDTL). The participants provided various answers: "It is HIV related diseases management"; or "knowledge about caring for People Living with HIV". All the answers provided were not yet entirely correct, though, as HIV Case Management is not widely known in Timor-Leste. The training, conducted between March 25 and March 27, 2014, was implemented as part of the CWS Timor-Leste HIV Prevention Program for FFDTL personnel. This program, which is funded by the Department of Defense HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP) has been implemented by CWS since 2009 in Timor-Leste. One of the activities the program supports is voluntary counseling and testing (VCT).
"Can HIV be transmitted through mosquito bites? I have heard that it cannot, but then why can mosquitoes transmit other diseases, such as dengue fever?", asked Magno, a member of the defense force in Timor Leste called the Forcas Defesa Timor Lorosae (FFDTL). These are just some of the questions asked by the participants in an HIV Prevention information session conducted for the members of FFDTL as part of HIV Prevention Program by CWS Timor Leste. The program is conducted in collaboration with the FFDTL and the government of Timor Leste.
World AIDS Day 2012 commemoration in Timor Leste was marked on December 21, 2012 at Timor Leste Defense Force (Forças de Defesa de Timor Leste or Falintil - FDTL often F-FDTL) headquarter, Quarter Terrestra District. The event, participated by all F-FDTL members, the community leaders and community members, representatives of Ministry of Health as well as organizations working in Timor Leste, was organized by CWS Timor Leste together with Ministry of Health and F-FDTL with the theme, "Let's hold hands and embrace the people living with HIV".
Busan, South Korea -- International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific is the largest HIV/AIDS forum in Asia and the Pacific Region and the second largest in the world. The 10th ICAAP -- provided the opportunities for greater regional collaboration, sharing of ideas among people infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemics from across the region and provides regional and national organisations, governments and individual stakeholders with space to enhance their mutual contributions in the response to HIV/AIDS - was held in Busan, South Korea on August 26 - 30, 2011 carrying the theme "Diverse Voices, United Action." It was attended by about 2,500 people sixty-four countries.
